The baghouse, built to ASME Code, improved the collection and retainment of polycarbonate resin powder thus ensuring safe working conditions for plant personnel.
The Challenge
Polycarbonate resin, an amorphous thermoplastic discovered accidentally in a GE lab, has revolutionized industries ranging from automotive to electronics, and security to construction. In polymer resin manufacturing, maintaining product purity and operational efficiency is critical. However, clogged filtration systems can disrupt this balance, leading to increased pressure, reduced efficiency, and compromised quality.
To address this issue, a global petrochemical leader—and returning client—sought Heumann Environmental’s expertise. They needed a custom baghouse system to enhance resin powder collection while meeting ASME Code requirements for workforce safety.
Adding complexity to the project was the need to fabricate the equipment in sections so that individual sections could be loaded into an elevator before being assembled at the top level of the customer’s facility.

The Heumann Environmental team leveraged its deep understanding of the client’s rigorous standards to design and fabricate a custom pulse-jet baghouse dust collection system. Engineered for safe, reliable high-pressure operation, the system was precisely tailored to the client’s needs, ensuring optimal resin powder quality and production efficiency.
Heumann Environmental designed the baghouse to be fabricated in five (5) major sections so that each section could fit in the available elevator.

Material of Construction:
The baghouse dust collector was constructed from 316 stainless steel, selected for its exceptional durability and superior corrosion resistance. This choice ensures an extended equipment lifespan, delivering lasting value and reliability to our client’s operations.
Code Construction:
Our client trusted our reputation for designing and constructing pollution control systems optimized for maximum efficiency in heavy process environments. The baghouse system was meticulously designed and built to ASME Section VIII Division 1 Code for pressure vessels, ensuring full compliance with industry safety standards.
Pleated Filters:
To minimize the size of the baghouse, pleated filters were used in lieu of traditional bag filters. Pleated filters provide more surface area for filtration per given amount of volume when compared to traditional bag filters.

The alternative to HEC’s solution would have involved bringing in cranes to lift the equipment into place and required removal of part of the building’s exterior walls.
