Baghouses

How Baghouses Work

A baghouse is a highly efficient dry filtration system designed to remove dust and other particulate from the air. It operates by placing a physical barrier, known as the “tube sheet,” between the gas inlet and outlet. Filters inserted into the tube sheet capture dust on their exterior surface as air passes through.

Heumann Environmental specializes in custom-designed baghouse systems, with a focus on pulse-jet baghouses. Also known as pulse-jet dust collectors, the system’s name comes from the high-pressure gas pulses that periodically clean the filters. These pulses dislodge the dust caked onto filter media, which then settles into the hopper for disposal or further processing. This self-cleaning design ensures continuous operation, low energy consumption, and minimal upkeep.

Pulse jet baghouses offer exceptional versatility, allowing for seamless integration into existing setups. They are available in both cylindrical and square configurations, offering a range of sizes and filter-loading orientations. Heumann Environmental baghouses can be constructed of various materials —including carbon steel, stainless steel, and special alloys like Inconel and Hastelloy—to meet specific needs such as chemical compatibility, abrasion resistance, and FDA requirements.
