Engineered for Extremes. Built to Last.

When extreme conditions push equipment to its limits, failure is not an option. High temperatures, relentless abrasion, and intense pressure demand more than off-the-shelf solutions. At Heumann Environmental, we design and fabricate custom-engineered equipment that meets these challenges head-on–because performance under pressure isn’t just expected, it’s required.

Tailored Solutions for Extreme Conditions

At Heumann Environmental, we design our products to perform in a wide range of demanding applications. Many of these fall under what we call High TAPS—applications requiring High Temperature, High Abrasion, High Pressure, or High Surface Finish solutions. These challenging environments require specialized engineering, precision design, and expert fabrication.

High Temperature & High Pressure

Our equipment is engineered to withstand extreme forces, ensuring both process integrity and operator safety.

High Abrasion

For highly abrasive environments, we utilize specialty materials like abrasion-resistant steel, refractory linings, and ceramic tiles to extend equipment lifespan.

High Surface Finish

Applications in food and pharmaceuticals demand precise surface finishes to meet FDA cleanliness requirements and prevent material buildup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifies as a High TAPS application?
High Temperature – Any application with a design temperature above 300°F requires materials and designs that can withstand thermal stress and long-term exposure.
High Abrasion – Environments with high dust loading or hard particulates, such as sand, demand wear-resistant materials to extend equipment lifespan.
High Pressure –Per ASME code, any process operating above 15.0 PSIG is classified as high pressure and requires reinforced designs for safety and reliability.
High Surface Finish – Standard mill-finished materials have a 250 microinch Ra surface roughness. Applications needing 80 microinch Ra or lower are considered high surface finish, essential in industries like pharmaceuticals and food processing.
How does Heumann Environmental design for high temperature and pressure?

We follow ASME Section VIII Division 1 to ensure all high-temperature and high-pressure equipment meets safety and durability standards. Our design approach includes:

Advanced Engineering Software – We use COMPRESS and SolidWorks FEA to simulate stress, pressure, and thermal effects.
Hand Calculations – To verify structural integrity and ensure compliance with ASME standards.
Material Selection – High-strength alloys and heat-resistant coatings designed for extreme conditions.
What methods and materials are used for high abrasion applications?

We take a tiered approach to designing for high-abrasion environments, ensuring equipment durability and extended lifespan.

Increased Material Thickness – The first line of defense is using thicker base materials in high-wear areas to improve durability.
Abrasion-Resistant (AR) Steel – For greater protection, we will consider AR-grade steel, which offers superior hardness and impact resistance.
Internal Linings – When additional reinforcement is needed, we apply poured refractory linings or ceramic tiles to shield against continuous wear.
Specialty Coatings – In the most extreme cases, we use tungsten carbide and other advanced coatings for maximum abrasion resistance.

By following this step-by-step approach, we ensure that each application receives the right level of protection to optimize performance and longevity.

When is a high internal surface finish needed?

A high internal surface finish is required when cleanliness, material flow, or contamination control is critical. This includes:

Pharmaceuticals & Food Processing – To meet FDA and GMP cleanliness standards.
Sticky or Viscous Materials – To prevent buildup and improve process efficiency.
