Explosion Protection

Safeguard Your Operations Against Explosive Hazards

Explosion protection is a critical consideration when designing dust recovery or pollution control systems, especially if the particulate involved in your process is explosive. At Heumann Environmental, we prioritize safety, and we collaborate closely with explosion protection suppliers to implement suitable safeguards against potential explosive events.

Explosion Venting

Explosion vents, strategically positioned on the exterior of process equipment, offer a designated point for releasing pressure during an explosion. Engineered to fail at a predetermined burst pressure, these vents rupture to release the explosion and alleviate internal pressure within the vessel. This method of explosion protection is favored for its simplicity and cost-effectiveness.

When integrating explosion venting into cyclone systems, finding an appropriate mounting location can be difficult—especially near the top, where flat surfaces are limited. A smart solution is to install the explosion vent atop a scroll outlet. The scroll outlet offers a stable, flat area ideal for vent placement, enabling effective explosion relief without interfering with the cyclone’s aerodynamic performance or structural integrity. This strategic use of space ensures both safety and system efficiency are maintained.

Chemical Suppression

Chemical suppression systems are an alternative for mitigating dust hazards when venting isn’t feasible due to space constraints or when a proactive approach is desired. These systems flood the vessel’s interior with a chemical suppressant upon detecting abnormally high pressure, mitigating the explosion risk.

When to use Explosion Protection?

The necessity for explosion protection hinges on the chemical composition of the particles being collected. Cyclones or baghouses handling explosive particles or under extreme pressures should always include explosion protection to prevent the spread of an event upstream or downstream of the equipment. On the other hand, scrubbers, whether particle or packed bed, typically do not require explosion protection as they rely on water or a scrubbant fluid as part of their operational process.

By integrating appropriate explosion protection measures into your dust recovery or pollution control system, you can enhance safety and minimize the risk of potential hazards.

Trust in our expertise to navigate the complexities of explosion protection and dust hazard mitigation in your recovery or air pollution control system. With Heumann Environmental, safety is never compromised.
